Blaze damages San José home, injures firefighter
On September 24, 2014, units of the San José Fire Department responded to reports of a residential structure fire at 763 Concord Avenue near Interstate Highway 280 and Southwest Expressway.
As firefighters began to arrive on scene the first crew confirmed a working blaze in a storage structure attached to a two-story multiple occupancy dwelling.
Offensive action was initially taken to knock down the fire when
a live power line was discovered to have dropped from an electrical pole to the rear of the building. Interior firefighting was temporarily halted to protect firefighters from the life hazard.
Multiple alarms were struck during this incident due to the danger posed by the burning utility pole and the possibility of additional residences catching fire should other electrical lines fall.
During interior operations two firefighters were struck by falling debris with one member slightly injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
